Yessica Yosia Virginia Simanjuntak

Yessica Yosia Virginia Simanjuntak is an Indonesian female composer active across various musical fields, including original composition, arrangement, and live performance. She is a graduate of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar, where she studied music composition under the mentorship of I Wayan Sudirana and I Made Kartawan—renowned Balinese gamelan composers and ethnomusicologists who have made significant contributions to the global development of gamelan music.

Yessica has collaborated with numerous organizations both nationally and internationally, including as music director and arranger for the Artists Disney Theater project in West London and the national Indonesia Istimewa initiative by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. Her expertise spans composition, arrangement, conducting, and piano and flute performance.

In 2022, she founded Saodor Ensemble, a music group exploring the intersection of Batak Toba musical traditions and experimental electronic approaches. Her latest work, Lungun—a chamber and electronic reinterpretation of the Batak Toba lament tradition—was selected as one of the featured works at Classical:NEXT 2025, a leading global event for innovative music held in Europe. Other notable works include Emotions (2018), Josiah (2019), and Lifetime (2020).
